ABOUT THE AMERICAN FOREIGN POLICY PROJECT

The American Foreign Policy Project (AFPP)  is dedicated to serving all those people -- Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative - who are shaping the U.S. foreign policy debate and who understand that security and prosperity cannot be sustained through unilateralism and belligerence at one extreme, or isolationism on the other, but only through a policy of responsible global engagement across a wide range of endeavors.

AFPP convenes large teams of top experts to collaboratively develop sound policy on the toughest national security and foreign policy issues of the day.  We then translate these policies into effective messages, and disseminate them to key influencers and the public through a variety of channels: briefings, traditional media, blogs and a unique website.

Americanforeignpolicy.org is currently under construction. Once fully built, it will offer a one-stop resource supplying  everything one needs to articulate a sound policy and a powerful message on selected foreign policy issues:

  • reliable facts and team-tested analysis
  • top-flight messaging and messaging advice
  • effective counter-arguments
  • story leads.

We believe that combining these elements in a single package -- and making it readily available online -- will both enrich the foreign policy debate and promote the adoption of policies that uphold our values and succeed in the field.

We are beginning with a pilot project on Iran: what the United States should do (and not do) in managing the Iranian challenge, and why. Our top-flight team of experts on Iran includes Farsi-speaking scholars with deep knowledge of Iran; top specialists on nuclear non-proliferation issues, Hamas, Hezbollah, terrorism, Iraq and Afghanistan; and former intelligence officials and senior diplomats with many years of experience in dealing with Iran.
